Academic event planners who make a point of saying "this is an IN-PERSON event!" with caps and exclamation point, your ableism is showing.
There are legitimate reasons why students and/or employees might not want to have their cameras on for Zoom. Those who live in good housing situations often forget that their colleagues might NOT live in such a situation. Or being on camera may provoke anxiety as it puts a focus on you as an individual that being one among many in an in-person situation does not. Or maybe the person lives in a household, doesn't have their own room with a door to close & housemates don't want to be on camera.
Don't insist that students and/or employees have their cameras on. It's ableist, classist, and can also violate someone else's privacy. #Zoom #OnlinePedagogy
I love taking online courses and I engage just as much with the course design as I do with the content. How is the course structured? How is community built a/synchronously? How are we expected to engage and interact with content and with each other within and between sessions and modules? It's all so interesting and fun 🤓💻📚
Waiting for a course I'm enrolled in, on #equity and #inclusivity in #education, to begin in January...

The UC Access Now Demandifesto was mentioned in this Forbes op-ed about the recent Dept of Justice agreement with Cal after repeated ADA violations. Despite what is implied, the Demandifesto doesn't only focus on physical infrastructure, but maintains that every bit of UC must be accessible.

Historically, considerations about accessibility on college campuses have largely revolved around the physical accessibility of campus buildings—the width of doorways, the accessibility of elevators, and the allotment of wheelchair-accessible bathrooms.
Great to be with a room full of #humanities colleagues today learning about video production for our teaching. We're heading into an afternoon of some technical nitty gritty, my favourite kind of nitty gritty.
