Samsung Galaxy devices remove options in recovery mode after the February 2026 update
Samsung has rolled out the February 2026 update to millions of Galaxy devices, and it has improved the device security by increasing the Android security patch level to February 5th, 2026, to fix security vulnerabilities.
This update is now available, and it not only improves your device security, but it was responsible for stripping out the options from the recovery mode for Galaxy phones.
Several users have noticed the changes and brought them up to the Samsung community forums, with some of the reports listed below:
- It’s official: Samsung is removing “Wipe Cache Partition” starting with the Feb 2026 patch update
- Samsung removes Android recovery options after February 2026 update(S25 Ultra)
- Unable to clear cache partition after February security update, what is the solu
- Change in recovery mode
- Samsung removed options from the recovery menu
- Android recovery gone?
- Why have Samsung removed Cache partition after Feb 26 update and Knox update
- No Wipe cache partition option?
- A54 5G February 2026 update RIP wipe cache partition
- Wipe Cache Partition is no longer available after February 2026 patch
This “slimming-down” process of the recovery mode does not only affect the flagship phones, but it also affects every phone and tablet that got the February 2026 update. For example, our Galaxy Tab S8 (SM-X700, XSG CSC) no longer provided an option to wipe the cache partition after the update.
The comparison pictures show the state of the recovery mode on our tablet before and after the update:
This means that all options except Reboot, Factory Reset, and Power Off have been deleted from the recovery menu. Some reports have concluded to the fact that One UI 8.0 manages its caches better, and some have stated that the A/B partitioning scheme means that manually wiping the cache partition has become obsolete.
The following options have been removed (non-exhaustive):
- Wipe cache partition: Some users actively use this option to wipe their cache partition after each update, and the majority of the reports were talking about how they’re unable to wipe cache partition after the update.
- Reboot to bootloader
- View recovery logs
- Apply update from…
- Mount /system
- Run tests…
The February 2026 update makes this irreversible by incrementing the firmware revision on all devices that got the update. For example, Galaxy Tab S8 Series users will observe that the bootloader version has changed from 9 to A, while the Tab S10 Series users will see the bootloader version change from 6 to 7. Similarly, the Galaxy S25’s bootloader version has been changed from 7 to 8.
