India has begun evacuating its citizens stranded in multiple Middle Eastern nations amid the war between Iran and US-Israel. Multiple Indian carriers would run special flights today (March 3, 2026) to bring back hundreds of Indians stuck in Dubai, Riyadh, and other Gulf cities. The West Asian region is embroiled in a deadly conflict that was triggered by US-Israel joint military strikes on Iran on Saturday (Feb 28). Iran responded with retaliatory strikes, targeting the American bases in the Gulf. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh, Manama, and Kuwait City were the cities targeted. The airspace in the entire region was suspended since Sunday, when Iran officially confirmed the assassination of its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the initial US-Israeli strikes After the temporary suspension of flights, Dubai Airports began limited operations on Monday evening as several international carriers announced the gradual resumption of select services.Emirates began operating a limited number of flights from Monday evening, prioritising customers with earlier bookings. Akasa Air announced that its flights to and from Abu Dhabi, Doha, Jeddah, Kuwait and Riyadh remain suspended until March 3. Oman Air cancelled all flights on March 3 to and from Amman, Dubai, Bahrain, Doha, Dammam, Kuwait, Copenhagen and Baghdad due to ongoing airspace closures. Other flights are operating as scheduled, though delays are expected.India's Ministry of Civil Aviation, meanwhile, said on Monday evening that it was closely monitoring the situation in West Asia to facilitate relief for passengers. It said 357 flights planned for operation on Monday had to be cancelled. Around 800 flights had been cancelled on Saturday and Sunday. "We at the Ministry of Civil Aviation are closely monitoring passenger grievances through the Passenger Assistance Control Room (PACR) and ensuring prompt redressal on priority. A total of 559 grievances have been addressed during this period through AirSewa, social media platforms, and dedicated helpline calls, in coordination with airlines and concerned stakeholders," the Ministry said in a post on X. It advised passengers to check official airline channels for accurate updates regarding cancellations and rescheduling. For assistance, the passengers may contact the Ministry’s Passenger Assistance Control Room (PACR) helpline numbers at 011-24604283 / 011-24632987.The External Affairs Ministry has also issued helplines and advisories for its citizens in the UAE, asking them to remain alert and keep a tab on official updates. People have also been advised to avoid spreading unverified information and rely only on confirmed statements from the government.
