This is a bean plant leaf. There are many like it. All thanks to a clay pot in the ground stoppered with silicone, and topped with a repurposed plate. Ollas, however you can buy or make, is the way forward.

I'm hot & dry summers. Rains hopefully in winter. Urban heat Island. Zone 10b

Yes, terra cotta is porous and sweats. This is why they work well as ollas, with the hole sealed.

@BroadforkForVictory In the old polytunnel, I had some #ollas of a design similar to yours. Two pots were glued together at their rims with one bottom hole closed.
When the tunnel was demolished for the new greenhouse, the ollas were in a poor state and didn't go back in again.
You are absolutely right about the time over winter. But as a former colleague visiting my garden once said: Arne, you are tinkerer not a gardener!
