Adding on to my previous post, here are a few more photos from yesterday evening’s walk around Takinogawa, a neighborhood in Tokyo’s Kita Ward with a very “retro” feel.
(I may need to go back one day and document the Sentō from the second photo in a bit more detail).

On my way back from work tonight, I took a short walk through the northern part of the Takinogawa neighborhood in Tokyo’s Kita Ward. A lot of shiny new buildings have gone up since I last came here, but I was glad to also still find some of the old structures and atmosphere intact.

The old town of Takayama in Gifu Prefecture has been beautifully preserved with many buildings and whole streets of houses dating back to the feudal ages, when the city thrived as a wealthy merchant town. This kind of scenery lends itself to being photographed on film, so here is a photo set taken with Mamiya 6 and 50mm f/4 lens on Fujicolor Pro 160 NS.

Narai-juku (奈良井宿) is a former post town in the Kiso Valley of Nagano Prefecture. During the Edo Period (1603-1868), it marked the half-way point between Kyoto and Edo to travelers along the Nakasendo Route. The main road is lined with beautifully preserved old buildings that house souvenir shops, restaurants and Minshuku (family-run, guesthouse-style lodgings). Here are a few impressions from a visit last year.
