The unexpected, but rather wonderful, former Toledo Cinema on Clarkston Road in the Muirend area of Glasgow. Designed by William Beresford Inglis, it was built in 1933 as an Atmospheric Cinema in a Spanish American fantasy style and could seat 1,598.

516 Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. Designed as a warehouse by Robert Duncan, it was built in 1898. In 1910, the original buildings was demolished, leaving just the facade, and the Charing Cross Electric Theatre, Glasgow's first purpose-built cinema, was constructed behind it. The cinema closed in 1926 and it became the Locarno Ballroom. It's been a casino since 1989.

In the 1890s, this became the wonderfully named Crouch's Wonderland and it showed its first film in 1897, just a year after the first movie was shown in Glasgow at Arthur Hubner’s Real Ice Skating Palace on Sauchiehall Street (which would later become the much missed ABC cinema). Once the St Enoch Picture House closed in the 1930s, it found its third lease of life as a shop, which is remains to this day.

The surviving facade of the St Enoch Picture House on Argyle Street in Glasgow. Its life as a cimena lasted between when it opened in 1913, and closed in 1935. However, before that it was a musical hall called Crouch's Theatre of Varieties, which opened in 1881.

It's great to see the old Vogue Cinema on Main Street in Rutherglen is looking a lot better today (picture on the right) than the last time I photographed it back in 2023 (on the left).

This Art Deco cinema was designed by James McKissack and opened in 1936 with a seating capacity of 1,750. It closed as a cinema in 1974.

An 1880s warehouse on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. Like a surprising number of warehouses on this street, it was converted into a cinema at the start of the 20th century. Designed by Duff and McKissack, it opened as La Scala in 1912 and seated 1,000 people. Its auditoriun was divided into two smaller screens in 1976, with a third added in the former cafe area in 1978 before finally closing in 1984.
