Sunday, May, 26, 2002 – The I-40 Bridge Disaster
A barge collided with a bridge support near Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, causing a section of the I-40 bridge to plunge into the Arkansas River. Joe Dedmon, captain of the tugboat Robert Y. Love, experienced a blackout and lost control of the ship. Due to the location of the accident, automobiles and tractor trailers fell into the water, killing fourteen people.

Supreme Court justices wrestle with Creek reservation case

MAY 11, 2020 - U.S. Supreme Court justices on Monday looked for clear answers — and maybe even a compromise — on whether Congress officially terminated the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s reservation at Oklahoma statehood. During oral arguments conducted by telephone, justices also sought to understand the extent of disruption that might result from a ruling that Oklahoma has been improperly trying criminal defendants within historical Creek boundaries for more than a century. Justice Neil Gorsuch, whose vote may be critical to the outcome of the case, seemed to align himself with the viewpoint that Congress never disestablished the Creek reservation.

Scientists in Oklahoma are one step closer to finding possible evidence of mass graves linked to one of the worst incidents of racial violence in history. Researchers in Tulsa used ground-penetrating radar to survey three sites. Omar Villafrana reports.

A new school was built on the site in 1925 but closed in 1943 when the Babbs Switch district was annexed into the nearby Hobart and Roosevelt districts.
