The federal government’s proposal to release new oil and gas leases off of Alaska, California, and the Gulf of Mexico threatens the environment and local economies. Please sign Surfrider's action alert today!
The Trump administration is officially pursuing an unprecedented and dangerous new offshore drilling plan that will open vast stretches of U.S. coastlines up to new offshore oil and gas drilling.
It could lock in decades of new drilling off California, the Gulf of Mexico, previously protected waters off of Florida, and Alaska, and will threaten beaches, recreation, tourism, and coastal ecosystems.
Something tells me it’s very chilly in Hell right now: “Florida governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, recently joined California governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, in speaking out against the Trump administration’s plan to offer up to 34 offshore drilling leases off the coasts of Alaska, California, and Florida.” 😳

In the wake of yesterday’s report from Alex Horton and Ellen Nakashima of the Washington Post that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered Special Operations to kill the survivors of a September 2 strike on a small boat off Venezuela, the Senate and the House Armed Services Committees have announced they intend to conduct “vigorous oversight” and “gather a full accounting” of the operation.

#Trump to propose opening #California Coast to #oil #drilling for the first time in roughly 4 decades, acc/to 3 people.
The move would set up a confrontation with Gov #GavinNewsom, a #Democrat who has fought #OffshoreDrilling & who has emerged as one of Trump’s chief political antagonists. Newsom is in Brazil for the #UN #climate summit, where he is drawing a contrast between himself & Trump, who denigrates efforts to fight #GlobalWarming.

Sable Offshore Corp., based in Houston, is facing a slew of legal challenges but is determined to restart oil production off the coast of California, even if that means confining it to federal waters, where state regulators have virtually no say.
