#RMSMajestic, last #SuperLiner for #WhiteStarLine and world's largest #OceanLiner for 13 years, had her maiden voyage in 1922 on #ThisDayInHistory. Originally launched as #SSBismarck for #HamburgAmericaLine, she was completed, grudgingly and slowly, after #WWI as war reparations.

#RMSLusitania was torpedoed and sank off the coast of #Ireland on #ThisDayInHistory in 1915, taking almost 1200 souls with her. #Lusitania sank so fast most lifeboats didn't launch. The #Cunard #OceanLiner was illegally smuggling weapons along with her civilian passenger service.

#OceanLiner SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Große of Germany's #NorddeutscherLloyd was launched #ThisDayInHistory in 1897. She was the fastest in the world for two years and the first four-stack liner, starting a trend that lasted until WWI. She was scuttled after a fierce battle in 1914.

#NaziGermany loaded #ConcentrationCamp inmates onto three ships, perhaps meaning to scuttle them, but on #ThisDayInHistory in 1945, UK #RAF did the killing and bombed them. 4650 prisoners went down with former #OceanLiner #SSCapArcona and another 2750 went down with #SSThielbek.

#RMSQueenElizabeth2 departed Europe on her maiden voyage on her maiden voyage on #ThisDayInHistory in 1969. The last great Atlantic liner, with a classic profile, #QE2 served #Cunard until 2008, when replaced by #QM2 (the world's only #OceanLiner), and is now a hotel in #Dubai.
