What's Happening in the Ocean and Why It Matters to You and Me

With unprecedented marine heat waves sweeping the globe, we need better solutions for ocean sustainability

A quick introduction since I have recently moved to fediscience.

I am CNRS Scientist at Sorbonne University and the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations. I study the effects of global change on marine ecosystems and their services. I also investigate ocean-based solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

Like many recent arrivals, I’m looking to reconnect and build new networks here. So… le’ts start salty :) Ocean and marine people, introduce yourself! Drop a reply and share who you are and what you’re working on to make it easy for folks to find each other. Fish puns highly encouraged. #OceanScience #marinescience #oceanclimate #fisheries #BlueCarbon #oceanography #marinebiology #marineecology #oceanpolicy #marinepolicy #OceanConservation

Disappointing....

Although overfishing, global heating and acidification are existential risks to “the lungs of the planet”, there are only two mentions of “ocean” in the latest working agreement at Cop15.

Watered down: why negotiators at Cop15 are barely mentioning the ocean

With only two instances of the word ‘ocean’ in the latest 5,000-word working agreement, delegates fear marine biodiversity is being sacrificed

@KatieOcean That would be great! Also #oceanclimate or #climateocean
