This is the foundation pier for HART's (#Oahu #Hawaii) light rail line, within 300 feet of the shoreline (which is covered up by a freeway and piers). That looks like standard steel 14 or 18 rebars, doesn't it? And in the steel shaft you can see the standing water from the water line (salty ocean water). I'm wondering why they didn't use GFRP rebars? Was it part of the cost-cutting? If so, that seems like a poor choice in cost cuts.
