Two tracks:
• Prepurchases: $250K–$1.5M
• R&D grants: $250K–$750K
Priority areas: mineralization, ocean/inland alkalinity enhancement, and MRV for open-system pathways.
In 2025, Frontier portfolio companies began building ~1.4M tonnes/yr removal capacity. Now they're funding the next wave.
Scientists pumped 65,000 litres of sodium hydroxide into the Gulf of Maine. Result: 10 tonnes of CO₂ absorbed, ocean pH restored to preindustrial levels, no harm to marine life detected.
The LOC-NESS project is the first EPA-permitted open-water OAE test. Real data beats theory.

First results from the first EPA-permitted ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) experiment.
WHOI's Loc-Ness project dispersed 65,000 litres of sodium hydroxide over 1km² in the Gulf of Maine. Over 4 days: 2-10 tonnes of additional CO₂ drawn into the ocean. No ecosystem harm detected.
Small scale, but this is exactly the data the field has been missing — open-ocean OAE measurement has been nearly impossible until now.
