artificially low initial costs that are currently being subsidized by the tech companies as they battle it out for market share, but which must increase for the industry to turn a profit.

What it doesn’t cover is:

loss of expertise as experienced public servants are forced out, often through early retirement schemes
accuracy of output given LLM’s well-documented error-rates
legal/criminal liability
future costs of repairing the damage to the government data/knowledge base/systems that letting these models run amok on govt. datasets will cause.

I LOVE this so much. Maori MPs in the New Zealand parliament protest attempts by the centre-right government and far-right "ACT" coalition partners to pass legislation that water down treaty rights of Maori.

New Zealand is one of the only places (the only?) in the British Empire where the Crown signed a treaty with all Indigenous peoples at the time of contact. It has shaped NZ Law and Society ever since!
