…Update: Fire behavior is active with short runs and some uphill runs, with increased activity in the afternoon. The fire has also been active at night due to low relative humidities.

Fire Outlook: Weather is expected to remain dry for the next few days with forecasted winds out of the southwest with gusts 20-30 mph. Poor overnight humidity recoveries are expected to continue, which could contribute to fire spread overnight. Monsoonal moisture becomes possible on Wednesday 7/30 and increases later in the week.

Objective: Crews will continue point protection strategies and act as necessary to protect values at risk. All values at risk are not publicly accessible and are not a threat to public health or safety if impacted.

Closures: The Cat Canyon Fire is within the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) and Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) withdrawn lands. This is a restricted area, closed to the public, always, regardless of fire activity. No additional closures are in effect.

Size & Completion: 35,725 acres. Completion has increased to 25%.

Update: Fire behavior remains active with short runs and some uphill runs, with increased activity in the afternoon. Some areas of the fire received precipitation last night.

Fire Outlook: There is an increased chance of thunderstorms and precipitation today. A possibility of thunderstorms implies potentially gusty and erratic winds. Gusty and erratic winds may contribute to fire spread. Firefighters are hopeful that lower temperatures, higher relative humidities, and more precipitation will decrease fire activity.

Objective: Today crews will continue point protection strategies and act as necessary to protect values at risk. All values at risk are not publicly accessible and are not a threat to public health or safety if impacted.

Current fire restrictions in Southern Nevada, effective since June 12, 2025, prohibit open fires, fireworks, and tracer ammunition on public lands, and these measures remain in place to prevent further fire starts. The Gothic Fire is being closely monitored due to extreme dry conditions and increased grass fuels from earlier precipitation, which are heightening fire danger.

The HQ NTTR is working closely with interagency partners to contain the Gothic Fire while ensuring the safety of personnel and the integrity of critical military operations. The remote location and restricted access of Range 74 allow us to focus on containment without public safety concerns."

The following is an update on the fire from BLM Nevada, Southern Nevada District:

"The U.S. Air Force, in coordination with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Southern Nevada District, is actively managing a wildfire, designated as the Gothic Fire, on Range 74 within the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) withdrawn lands.

The fire, reported on July 4, 2025, has affected approximately 8,000 acres of restricted military land in Nye County, Nevada, is 0% contained.

The NTTR, managed by the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center at Nellis Air Force Base, encompasses approximately 2.9 million acres of withdrawn public lands, including Range 74, which is used for military testing and training activities. The Gothic Fire is burning in a remote area. No immediate threat to personnel, facilities, or adjacent communities has been identified, and the restricted nature of the area limits public access, reducing civilian risk.

Fire suppression efforts in restricted military airspace are being led by the Nevada Test and Training Range Headquarters with support from BLM Southern Nevada District Fire Management team.
