The entrance was sealed because of collapse danger. It was still a great site to visit. The wall showed signs of a second side chamber, now collapsed.

JulietJFallWe then hopped on a ferry Roscoff-Plymouth, to stay with family. My knowledgeable uncle G was a fabulous guide, creating tailor-made itineraries and zipping us along with gusto & humour. One day, we started out by returning to Carn Euny (Cornwall 🇬🇧) a #bronzeage village with several houses. There is an extraordinary fogou: a long underground stone tunnel, with a side chamber, like a stone igloo (or like a Sicilian #nuraghe!). #StandingStoneSunday

Mark HYesterday we were in #Sardinia and took a trip to see the Barumini #nuraghe, a Bronze Age settlement unlike anything we've seen before. The site felt almost organic with a central core reached through very steep, very uneven, very narrow passageways, and the growth of rooms and corridors outwards sprawling like something grown for insects. Fantastic, but not for the claustrophobic.

In the last few days, between teaching & writing, I visited 2 more Nuraghic sites near Siddi dating from the Bronze Age, on a slight high plane above the fertile lowlands of Sardinia: one corridor-shaped (not the usual beehive dome style) at Sa Fogaia; one “giant’s tomb” Sa Domu ‘e S’Orcu (see comment below by Aresti 👇 ). Both practically empty in April & open to visitors to climb around and inside. Extraordinary places! #StandingStoneSunday #BronzeAge #History #Nuraghe #Sardinia #Sardegna
