Have you ever tried to walk across hot coals?

Is that a physical activity or a mental one?

Is it supposed to hurt?

How do people do that successfully without burning their feet off?

What if healing could be like that? What if healing was mostly a mental activity like walking across hot coals?

The thing with healing is it's scary to most people because they are very unsure of what they will find. But much like walking across hot coals, if you're mentally prepared for the experience, then there is nothing to run away from. You just do it and you're fine.

Notice what people that walk across hot coals aren't doing. They aren't telling themselves that the coals aren't hot. We're not making up stories that aren't true to convince ourselves to do it. We're not lying to ourselves about what's happening. We're not squishing anything. If we do it successfully then no pain is experienced.

I believe healing is the same way. Healing when done successfully invokes minimal pain. It doesn't mean no pain ever. It just means manageable pain that doesn't cause you to run away from what you're doing.

The thing that happens for a lot of people is that the pain becomes overwhelming and it causes them to avoid the whole thing. So now healing is suddenly burning your feet off on the hot coals. It becomes a means of torturing yourself instead of something useful.

When you understand how to heal without the pain, when you understand how to walk across the coals and not burn your feet off, then you can do it successfully. It becomes a repeatable thing.

My goal is to offer you a way to heal that is manageable and not overwhelming. That's why I keep going back to the idea of focus. What you pay attention to matters. How you see it matters. The story you tell yourself in your head matters.

There are better ways to heal than to simply try to burn your feet off or rip yourself apart. It just doesn't have to be that painful.

When you're ready, I can help with your focus.

I've found some grunge to work through. Lucky me.

I wanted to share the strategy with you a little bit. It used to be that I would play this out externally, but I'm not doing that this time.

I caught onto the repetitive cycle that was being offered to me. I've done it enough times now, I was bound to figure it out eventually. I'm slow, but I will get there.

I've decided this time instead of playing out the repetitive cycle here I'm going to write privately behind the scenes to manage my focus and all the grunge behind it first before I do anything else.

Here's why I'm sharing this with you.

When you recognize a cycle or a pattern in your life you get two choices. You can play it out which is traditionally how I've gone about doing things or you can find ways to manage it without replaying the cycle. The trick is you have to have a way to manage your own focus. I do it through writing because it stops my brain from wanting to go in circles. What's your thing? How do you fix your focus? Do you even have a strategy for managing your focus?

The one thing that nobody teaches us that is so incredibly important is how to manage our focus. How do we stop the brain from going in repetitive circles? How do we shift a focus on pain to something that feels better without denying anything?

Working through grunge means figuring out why there is pain in my thinking or in my focus. My job is to sort out the pain. So I found some bitterness. I found a feeling of failure. I found some avoidance. All that is just pain but I have to deal with that so that my focus isn't all messed up because of it.

How do you find the pain in your focus?

Are you annoyed when you think about that thing? Does it bother you? Do you not like it? Do you argue with it? Is it a problem?

Anything that causes upset means your focus is messed up. There is pain behind it and it needs to be resolved. It's really not that hard to find.

I know what you're saying. "But I get annoyed when I look at everything!"

Yep. That's the starting point. I started there too. I picked the thing that screamed the loudest and went from there.

It won't stay like that forever. You just have to work through a few things first and it'll get easier. You'll be surprised how much of it is actually all tied together. It all crumbles pretty quickly once you get through a few individual things.

So that's where I am. You will likely over the next few days see some things you've seen from me before. But first, I need to fix my focus because right now it sucks.

Time to deal with the grunge!

P.S. Yes I do this willingly, by choice, on purpose. It's intentional. I've made a choice to live this way. When the grunge comes up I manage it. It's a conscious choice to recognize pain and cycles and deal with those things immediately. You have to be willing to do the work if you want to feel better.
