Mini review - Train Dreams

I wanted to watch other Oscar nominated movies besides "Sinners." This is streaming on Netflix and other than five or so minutes that touched me, I found it dragged out and searching for a plot. Great cinematography, but that's about it. Grade C-.

I watched an episode of Dr Who with my son a few days ago and it cemented what turns me off with new Who; all of the new incarnations (including Capaldi) are filled with a strange irreverent breathless enthusiasm. They’re comedy characters who aren’t funny, but mainly (to me) irritating. There were shades of that in the old Docs (notably not Hartnell or Pertwee though) but it wasn’t their defining character trait. My 10-year old also agreed - ‘cringe’, in his terms.
