Fire and ice.

Heavy snow last Sunday caused a major power outage in Oulu. During the disruption, large volumes of water were released through the gates of the Merikoski power plant, setting massive ice sheets in motion along the Oulujoki River. The ice was pushed all the way into Ainola Park, which had to be temporarily closed for safety.

The situation was dangerous, but it left behind these blue-glowing ice formations — a quiet reminder of the scale and beauty of winter in the north.
