Here we have part of the #MilkyWay.
Near the centre we have #Crux, the #SouthernCross, along with the #CoalSack.
Now to share a bit of what I have learned about how the traditional custodians of where I live call things.
Pretty much everywhere the Coal Sack is the head of Wetj, the Emu.
In #Whadjuck #Noongar lands, Crux is Waalitj, the Wedge-Tailed Eagle, but in #Yued lands Crux and the Pointers are Yongka - the kangaroo, with Crux forming the head, and the Pointers being the front paws.
Jarrah forest a living system that includes everything above and below ground. The soil. The roots. The insects. The small mammals, reptiles, and birds. The fungi and microbial life that bind the forest together.
Daniel Garlett is a Noongar cultural educator and community advocate who has spent decades opposing logging, mining, and large-scale land clearing in Western Australia’s forests and catchments. He lives here because he says he cannot live anywhere else. The quiet, the canopy, and the smell of damp earth after rain are not amenities. They are conditions of life.

It will look upside down for the Northern Hemisphere folks, but here we have all of #Orion or #Nyingarn (the echidna in #Noongar) in one frame.

It is the end of #Kambarang and the start of #Birak here in #Noongar Country. With that the Emu is setting early in the evening. As compensation, we are now getting the #EtaCarinaNebula instead.
So last night I did a mosaic shot of with with my #Dwarf3 #SmartTelescope from my back yard.
Only a couple of hours effective exposure, but I am really happy with the results.
2hrs 13 minutes, 60s@60, Ha/OIII filter.

Yesterday we visited Datjoin Rock just before sunset. This is one of the closest granite outcroppings to Beacon, and no doubt has significance to the local peoples. Alas, there is almost no information about the local Noongar peoples in any of the local material.
We paid our respects, and had a little look around.
This is the start of Wildflower Season out in the Wheatbelt, and already the orchids are putting on a lovely show.
