I am amazed! This is probably the first branch of Western spirituality, that is not incompatible with anarchism. Inclusive, nonhierarchical, and radical af - antiwar, anti-slavery and anti-discrimination.
Some of us understand “God” as a symbol of human values and some of us avoid the concept while accepting it as significant to others. We differ greatly in our religious experience and in the meaning we give religious terms.
We are not a pressure group trying to move Quakerism toward nontheism. We bless what our theist brothers and sisters bring to Quaker meetings and worship. All Friends have much to learn from each other. We hope to strengthen the Quaker tradition of welcoming people of diverse religious experience and to show by example that this can include nontheists.

Apparently... "Nontheism has generally been used to describe apathy or silence towards the subject of gods and differs from atheism, or active disbelief in any gods."

I belong to Quaker Rainbow UK, a group of LGBTQ+ Friends & our allies. Our 50th anniversary was on 2023! It started as FHF Friends Homosexual Fellowship after a conference in Manchester 7 Sept 1973, one of the first groups within a religious body to support lesbian & gay folk in the 70s & the first in UK to affirm & celebrate equal marriage. That was one of the reasons I was drawn to quakerism. Another is the openness of UK Quakers to affirm folk of all kinds of religious or non-religious persuasion. Me I’ve since settled into a humanist/non-theist outlook. Another is the centuries (since the 1650s!) of hard learning that quakers have undertaken: how to abandon practises in human societies that have caused much suffering such as slavery, violence, war, the social class hierarchy, alcoholism, & in our day, the plundering & devastation of our planet

It's been several decades since I took a philosophy of religion course, though I remember that "belief" doesn't really define religion as much as practices do. Think of the spectrum of #Christianity - #Amish, #Orthodox. #Baptists, #JehovasWitnesses, and others.
