@kzimmermann Any #nonsystemd system for a start is a good idea. I had no idea how it affected the speed of my machines until I tried Void Linux. It felt like before, like it used to be in Sysvinit era. I was able to run even KDE on it taking just ~200mb.

On top of it, some lightweight WM (JWM, IceWM etc. for stacking ones), xinitrc without any DM, lightweight apps without using DE specific ones, minimal startup apps etc. can basically do the same thing without all the extra fat.
