Soon the kitten was already eating wet food with his mom. At first, Nochka never left him and kept rubbing against me, purring gratefully. But now her love of freedom has kicked in. She started slipping out of my work room and running around the basement, looking for a way out. She got noticed. They realized I was the one who brought the cats, and gave me a deadline to clear the basement.

“His eyes have opened now, and I can’t keep him in the bed anymore — he’s always trying to run off somewhere. One day I came in and the kitten was gone. Nowhere. I searched the whole basement, thinking someone had taken him. I was already preparing for a vendetta.
And then I heard a tiny squeak. Turns out he’d crawled behind some wooden boards by the wall and was hiding there. He’s growing into a very quick little troublemaker.”

I settled Nochka in the basement at my workplace.
I tried bringing her home several times, but she couldn’t handle the apartment or my cats — and they weren’t happy either.
It’s a rented place and I’ll be moving out soon anyway.

The basement is warm, quiet, with a bed and a small room just for her.
I visit twice a day, sometimes three.
And that’s how a month has passed.

I got a call saying that Nochka had given birth right in the yard.
There were four kittens… but only one survived.

Nochka — Part 1: How she appeared.
Nochka first appeared in our yard in May 2025, right in the middle of the local tomcats’ spring fever.
That detail will matter later.
For now, she simply comes for meals, sleeps under the bushes, and spends most of her days alone.
