For some reason, there's a fabulous amount of orchids in bloom on my patch this year. I'm fairly certain these are Common Spotted-Orchids (Dactylorhiza fuchsii subsp. fuchsii); they are highly variable in colour.

I let the ragwort grow wild in my garden this year (which, despite the name, looks and smells lovely). And, as a result, I’ve now got a crop of fat cinnabar moth caterpillars happily munching away at it.

Want to help reverse the catastrophic collapse of global insect populations that threatens the food chain and all life on earth?

Not mowing grass in May but then starting again in June always seems like a lost opportunity to me and a waste of a chance to improve urban biodiversity. Instead of ‘no mow May’ how about ‘only mow September-November’? Here’s the result after six years - totally humming with bees and other insect life! #NoMowMay #nomowjune #biodiversity #lawnsareboring #Stirling #Scotland
Update to my Introduction post: the #nativeplants are filling in nicely where there used to be a lawn. #NoMowJune

Unusually long hot and dry spell here in Cumbria- storms have so far bypassed us. However, my mini meadow is thriving. Some of the yellow rattle is already setting seed and the knapweed is starting to flower #gardening #meadow #wildflowers #nomowjune #nowatering

Even with little to no rain during the last month, the garden has turned into a bit of a paradise for the local flying critters. We often see bats skimming across the gardens in the evening.

No mow May has drifted into no mow June, but at least we have beautiful green grass. #nature #NoMowMay #NoMowJune
