➤ Between 0.2-2% of deforestation is because of palm oil, but 40% is to make room for cows to graze
➤ Palm oil is responsible for deforestation BECAUSE it’s so productive. About 10x more oil per hectare of land compared to other tropical oils
➤ More productive oil plant = less land needed to grow what we need = less deforestation
➤ When we stop using palm oil, it’s replaced with LESS productive plants which cause more deforestation
