#wordweavers 25 What do you think about the last scene you wrote.

The dialog works, but the ending is weak. It should improve with revision.

#WritersCoffeeClub – 24th Mar Do you have a writerly "third place"?

I do most of my writing at home. But will write anywhere. The closest I come to a third place for writing is in the wilderness. This is highly limited because of the expense of keeping things powered up. Mostly, I just jot notes.

#WritersCoffeeClub – 23rd Mar. What's the most you've worked on a WIP before deciding to scrap it? What happened?

The first chapter of "Matsumoto's Curse" appeared on 26/04/21. The last chapter appeared on 20/02/22. Whereupon it was discontinued.

It is highly unlikely I would ever go back to it, though pieces have been cannibalized for later serials.

#WritersCoffeeClub – 22nd Mar. How do you organise your notes? (No notes?)

  • I have a note file for every major project. It's organized in sections - haphazardly.
  • Metadata is at the top of every file.

#WritersCoffeeClub 3.20 — Who is your ideal reader?

Those literate in Japanese literature and have a taste for #yuri with dark shadings. No scardy cats since I write horror-adjacent.

Anyone who likes Tanith Lee, Miyazawa Iori, or Jack Vance are prime targets.

#writerscoffeeclub 3/19 Do you need to finish a project before starting another?

I have 3 major serials with ongoing writing and minor projects. I have to use a speedsheet to track of work. It didn’t used to be this way.

#WritersCoffeeClub Mar. 18: What's a writerly gift you've received?

Bad spellers' dictionary.

#WritersCoffeeClub – 17th Mar. What's an experience or sensation you've struggled to convey to a reader?

Divine revelation. It's beyond description. Even the words I am using now imply insight rather than feeling. Perhaps "mystic connection" is better.

Divine awe, divine terror, supernatural dread, and similar emotions are also hard because they go beyond normal human emotions, and we only have words for the latter.

#WritersCoffeeClub 16Mar—What's the largest cast you've ever written? What made it challenging?

"The Wharf Rats and Princess Himari" had 10 MCs. Giving the stage to all of them was a daunting task, and I was not happy with the end result.

#KonbiniIdol has 55 entries in the table of characters at which point I gave up. Only 4 viewpoint characters. Challenge: Names that were dissimilar enough that readers wouldn't get confused.

#WritersCoffeeClub ~ How well did this short month go for you, in terms of writing?

#ScribesAndMakers ~ How did your month go?

  • #KonginiIdol is being uploaded EP by EP. It's all writing. So I've been a bit at loose ends, writing flash and working on two "new" novels.
  • "#Bijou the #TimeTravelingGhost," an Edgar Rice Burroughs X Jack Vance style pulp. I have mixed feelings about it. 20K is written. I need to do another polishing and adaptation pass for broader release. And I need #BetaReaders.
  • "#Airiusi: The Crow and the Witch." A Tanith Lee-style Mythpunk story. 5K written. The early release is getting favorable remarks. The main narrator is a #Crows, which is both fun and challenging to write.
