Moody one from last year during Tom's Trip with Divermasters. Taken on Adox Silvermax. That stuff is incredible!

Here's the print from yesterday toned (along with my compost bin doing it's best photo bomb) It's still in the wash so I'll scan it properly later but I'm quite happy with the tone. Toned in Harman Selenium toner, pretty sure in a 1:4 though I already had some mixed form the last time I toned and I need to look up how I mixed it. 1:4 is a bit aggressive but I quite like the look paired with Ilford's FB Classic. It's a bit cool but feels to me still fairly neutral without being overly purple or red. Sometimes I like that look. Adox MCC, when it was available, toned red as I recall, and for some photographs, that worked out well.

ok this roll of Ektachrome turned out far better than i hoped. shot on my Nikonos V without an exposure meter and shutter stuck at 1/90 lol

If you ever wanted to know what Portra 800 looks like pushed 1 stop and shot during a blue water scuba dive, now you know! This is the scan but I do also want to compare an RA4 print. I find Portra 800 appears finer on RA4 than when scanned and the 1 stop push certainly added grain (which is to be expected). So I don't think I'll be pushing it in the future for underwater work. At box speed it's generally fast enough and, while the grain is there, it's not overt.

Another black and white from our dive trip to Cozumel earlier this summer. This was taken on @kodak T-Max 100 and developed in @zoneimagingltd 's 510-Pyro.

I haven't yet had a chance to get in the darkroom to print any of the photos I shot properly yet but hope to soon!

Dr. Diver Dan (D-cubed / Yoda) hanging out upside-down towards the end of one of our dives down in Cozumel. I dunno how he finds that comfortable but he does! Taken on Portra 400 with my Nikonos V and glorious 15mm underwater lens.

Scanning and color balancing C-41 taken under the water can be quite the experience so I thought I would share a bit of how much there can be to work with on color negative, especially @kodak Portra 800. While I'm getting better at shooting lower ISO films underwater, it seems like I'm getting the best color correction with Portra 800. Lovely stuff! I wish it was available in sheet sizes but I digress. That has been true in the past and, so far, is true for these rolls too though new time I want to try Aerocolor IV (SantaColor) since it seems to have a red lean that might be favorable underwater.

My first takeaway is the _best_ color I've found for any color negative (above or under water) is from making an RA4 print directly from the film. All the underwater color scuba photos I've printed thus far have indeed had the most natural color rendition. I do plan on making some RA4 prints from the color film I shot over our vacation but am waiting to scan in all the rolls and pick among the best. While RA4 gives me the best color it also takes the most time.

Anyways! Here's two interpretations from the same negative scanned on my Epson V800 using Silverfast with NegaFix set to Portra 800. One has CCR enabled, one does not. But in both cases, I did some further correction in Lightroom. I have found for my GoPro images, using Darktable gave me superior results over at least my old version of Lightroom such that I may look at trying out Darktable for the scuba stuff. Darktable is a phenomenal, incredibly so given it's free, but it is a bit of a hill climb when coming from Lightroom, especially when wanting to make local adjustments. It also doesn't handle multiple catalogs very well but all that might be worth the trade-off.

In terms of what I saw, I would say neither of these are quite right, but the blue one is much closer. The non-blue one is far from reality, but I find it really interesting nonetheless in how far one can remove the blue water cast to produce what it might look like where the water clear.

Another shot from last week taken on @adoxphoto 's Silvermax and developed in their Silvermax developer. There's several photos from this roll I hope to print in the darkroom and this is one of them.

Taken during a beautiful swim through while diving last week in Cozumel, Mexico during our phenomenal vacation on a what I hope is a yearly @divemasterssa trip. This trip was special as it was a tribute and memorial to our good friend and former owner of Diver Masters, Tom. I took quite a few rolls of film (both color and black and white) so there's a lot to go through still.

This was taken with my Nikonos V with the 15mm lens on @adoxphoto 's Silvermax and developed in Silvermax developer. This trip I wanted to experiment around some with different films and shooting some black and white since I haven't done that in Cozumel in quite some time. The results I got from Silvermax were pretty unexpected (and in a good way). It just might be my new favorite black and white film to take in blue water (at least on a sunny day). I'll have to see how well it prints in the darkroom though but wow, what a film!
