On day 4 of my first Japan trip 20 years ago, I made a day trip to Nikko to see Toshogu Shrine. Back in Tokyo in the evening, I went to Ueno Park to watch the locals go about their cherry blossom season activities.

I'm not entirely sure what this is, but on this cold day it was covered in a layer of ice, so perhaps some kind of small pond or tank. Whatever its purpose, it bestowed beauty in its simplicity.
