This jacket was an (early) gift for my good friend @Kenji to celebrate his upcoming "Kanreki", which is when someone completes a 60-year cycle - a rebirth of sorts - based on the Oriental Zodiac. The Japanese custom is to wear red on this occasion, and that's why I thought this fabric would be perfect.
Kenji and I have been friends for about a quarter century! Most people who are into jeans making around the world know him for his store Citron Jeans, by far the best shop for any materials and hardware for making jeans, and probably the only place where hobbyists like me can buy top-quality rivets and buttons in small quantities. Without Kenji, my Eureka hobby would not be possible!

Some details of the double-weave sashiko jacket.
The cinch buckle is a new-old-stock vintage steel buckle. The rivets are copper-plated steel.

Some time ago I found some really nice double-weave sashiko fabric. This is the kind of fabric that used to be used for traditional Japanese firefighter coats, and in modern times is used for judo or kendo wear.
Stay tuned to see what this turned into!
