A team of researchers surveyed scientists from the Grant Witness database whose #NIH grants were terminated last year and found:

Half of terminations in the name of "equity" were of BIPOC researcher's grants.

60% of terminations in the name of the administration's anti "gender ideology" (itself a blatant ideological crusade) were of grants to sexual and gender minority scientists.

So well deserved - congratulations to Na on receiving this award. It’s been a real pleasure working with her, and I’m excited to see her keep making an impact. #NIH #EarlyIndependenceAward #WhiteheadInstitute #AI

Some good news on this MayDay

“Jenna Norton, was a key organizer of “The Bethesda Declaration,” issued in June 2025 and signed by nearly 500 N.I.H. employees, which deplored the degradation of medical research under Mr. Trump. “

She was put on administrative leave November 13 2025.

🙏She starts back work on Monday at the

There seems to be an inconsistency here. If there are so few new funding opportunities at the NIH, how did they manage to spend the entire allocated budget in 2025?

The truth is that it's really hard to talk about much of anything outside the immediate at the moment because so much of what's happened in the last six weeks feels completely surreal. Like it's happening to someone else. But my mentor sent me this, which is about as official as anything is. #NIH
Pace of #NIH Funding Slows Further in Trump’s Second Year
Spending on new #medical #research fell roughly $1 billion behind pace of years past, delaying thousands of scientific projects and raising concerns within agency that it may struggle to pay out money it was allotted by Congress.
NIH awarded only about 1900 new and competitive grants from October to late March, less than half the number it tended to give out by that point in the fiscal year.

Pace of N.I.H. Funding Slows Further in Trump’s Second Year

The agency has approved far fewer new grants than it did in years past. A renewed effort to screen for disfavored terms and a loss of personnel are contributing.
