Обожаю старые батарейки. Особенно когда они неюзанные, а предыдущий владелец невдупляэ.
За время чудовищного пролежня, внутреннее сопротивление пизда какое.
Но в случае с cd-* — достаточно её погонять и есть шанс, что 50-60% ёмкости еще там.
Но зарядка-то родная видит сопротивление и рвёт процесс в полной уверенности, что заряд полный.

To my surprise, I have discovered I’m still using a few old nickel cadmium rechargeable #batteries among the more modern nickel metal hydride ones. They must be at least 35 years old. Goes without saying that they’re pretty knackered now and ready to head for the battery bin. #NiCd

@anthropy granted, catalytic converters too have platinum, and the cost factor is less a matter if materials but economies of scale.

  • Noone but #Ex-certified radios and flashlights use #NiCd anymore because the math says no (and other useage has been banned via #REACH & #RoHS) and instead we see #Lithium cells...

@CelloMomOnCars @falcennial @pixelpusher220 Shure, the overhead of a #FuelCell will not.make.it.practical in a #Smartphone for the foreseeable future, and #SodiumWetcells are slowly entrenching #LiFePO4 cells territory.

I do however expect that for #EnvoirmentalProtection alone, we'll see #Lithium cells being slowly phased out in a few decades like #NiCd, #mercury and #lead before them.

  • The only reason #LeadAcid wetcells are still used as #CarBattery is because they are disgustingly cheap and can provide high amperages for starter motors. Their weight inefficiency is not of big concern in cars.

Likewise I'm confident we see first #LiFePO4 then #SodiumWetcells then #FuelCells take over.

In fact I'm confident #MethanolFuelcell will be used as drop-in replacement for (diesel-)electric buses simply because of scalability and fire safety alone.

  • OFC the superior solution for regular bus lines are trolley buses, but being able to refuel on long-distance trips will certainly help conversion with long-haul bus services and #trucking beyond the "last-mile stop & go" delivery where drivers have their 8hr shifts and trucks can "slow-charge" at the depot at night.

In fact, #DeutschePost literally bought up an #electric #MiniTrick #startup just to get the "#CityScooter" #BEV|s made for them, and for couriers that only do stop & go these work fine.

@ai6yr @mattblaze AFAIC it wasn't explosives, but malicious code that caused the SoC/microcntroller to overdischarge the #LiIon / #LiPo and basically not do overdischarge protection...

@CStamp @persagen whilst it's easy to attribute #Unit8200 for that, I'd say this is a too easy kind of explaination as it would be in the best interest if the #IDF to keep enemies like #Hezbollah in blissful ignorance about their #vulnerable #tech whilst maximizing #SIGINT effectiveness by not giving them a reason to implement secure #comms.

To me that sounds like a project some recruit of that unit would've to plan as a means to qualify for membership of that unit.

  • It doesn't make sense to pull that #PagerHack off given it's quite newly deployed (older batteries would've more reliably and faster gone critical due to #Overdischarge!) and having pulled this #exploit also means Hezbollah will clearly fix those issues, starting with devices using #NiCd or #LiFePO4 batteries if not employing proper #E2EE instead of using insecure & #unencrypted #POCSAG...

But since I'm not getting paid for fixing that shitshow AND don't work with or for terrorists (!!!) I won't plug any projects that would've prevented this...
