Absolutely caught me by surprise while partially deadheading the roses.

The Vapourer (Orgyia antiqua) caterpillar, some call this a Rusty Tussock moth.

The adult female of this species is virtually wingless.

Cut to just the Darters in the last post. Have also sharpened up the dragonflies a little more, slight filtering of colours too.

Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum)

#dragonfly #dragonflies #InsectPhotography #macrophotography #macro #odonata #newsighting

Common Darter dragonflies oviposting in garden pond. πŸŽ‰ The ripple on the waters surface is after the female, at the back, was dipping ovipositor into the water. The male clasps the female behind the head.

Great that a pond that was dug June this year, had algal blooms, recovered to healthy is now having amazing visitors &residents.

After looking through 100 photos thinking of camera body upgrade.

Another new sighting for the garden. I forgot to post this a couple of days ago.

This is an adult Orange swift moth - Triodia sylvina
Not the best photo, as had to crop down so you don't see into the house πŸ€” as was on window frame when having my morning coffee before work.

New species sighting for my garden

This is a scorpion fly, most likely Panorpa communis although haven't properly ID'ed it yet.
Garden situated in South East UK

Scorpion fly | The Wildlife Trusts

The scorpion fly, as its name suggests, has a curved 'tail' that looks like a sting. It is, in fact, the males' claspers for mating. It is yellow and black, with a long 'beak'. Look for it in gardens and woods.

Unknown species, new sighting 2023 in UK garden.

This little caterpillar is about 2cm long. It developed inside a healthy plum fruit and then emerged almost colourless, before turning slightly pink, once the plum started to discolour / start going over.

If anyone can ID this species it would be very helpful, thanks in advance.
