Do we need a new #NewPublicManagement ? How to finally move the needle on #technology within the #state and implement #DigitalGovernment?

Interesting conversation on those questions in this #OddLots episode, highlighting the importance of #merit in hiring, difficulties in evaluating performance and the issue of a risk-mindset as well as the tendency to quickly develop a lot of new procedures and services while having difficulty properly managing the whole #ecosystem

In particular the #PublicSector (not just in the US) also has to deal with #TacitKnowledge and an shifting age pyramid among employees

Scott Kupor's New Plan to Bring Tech Workers Into the Federal Government - Odd Lots

If you're a high-skilled tech worker, then potentially huge fortunes await you working for a startup or one of our booming AI giants. But the government needs these types of workers too. And the government is not set up to pay commensurate salaries with the private sector -- particularly for these types of roles. This challenge has long been understood, and there have been numerous efforts over the years to infuse the government with high-tech talent. Scott Kupor is the director of the US Office of Personnel Management, which manages and coordinates recruiting of new government employees across the federal workforce. Scott was also previously one of the top partners at the famed VC firm Andreessen Horowitz. So he has a mind for bringing the recruiting practices of the tech world into DC. But of course, that's easier said than done. On this episode, we talk about how federal hiring works and doesn't work, and also his new endeavor called the US Tech Force, which aims to bring in top talent for a two-year stint of solving problems across the bureaus. We also talk about the DOGE initiative, and how he thinks about recruiting top talent at a time when the administration has been aggressive about shrinking the size of the overall federal workforce. Xactly

And that goes for all government operations.

Things like #NewPublicManagement, #Neoliberalism and the #WashingtonConsensus pushed politicians and civil servants to run the public like the private.

The #bCNDP gets back into power in 2017 and reverses like none of the tax cuts from the previous 16 years. 😳🤯

BC? Still in the resource exploitation #StaplesTrap.

@pagangod it's (say it with me now) #NEWPUBLICMANAGEMENT (( fanfare ))

Hi, and welcome to
🌹 the art of subversion 🌹.

Today's subject is NPM,
which even sounds like a disorder.

Without NPM, the private company cannot compete with a public body, because as long as it is autonomous and integrated with regulations and taxing, it can be super effective.

Now look what happens when we introduce NPM. Now the tax milkshake gets drunken all up, and that's wasteful. So long public bodies.

👏

Big global consulting firms have been pushing #neoliberal public sector #CoreServiceReviews like it's #ketamine, trying to make #NewPublicManagement flourish in privatizing public services. For decaaaaades.

Now #BigHands, the fascist, is making them core service review, THEMSELVES!

We as #Norwegians have followed daddy #USA so much that our brains can't fathom a way forward that isn't "copying our way to success".

No, we don't want a Norwegian #AWS, nor do we need one. We should be copying what we did with electrical companies decades ago and #socialize #cloud infrastructure through localized services that are interchangeable.

But i think that we're so used to #NewPublicManagement, #BusinessOfComplexity and #Middlemen business that we can't see beyond our nose.

So my idea of combining all #laws into one megarepo has hit a wall - and said wall is #copyright.

Here in #Norway one foundation is responsible - and billable - for access to Norwegian law, and it's called #LovData (which stands for "Law Data*). Funnily enough LovData is cited as the copyright holder, even in the printed version of the law.

Isn't that weird? That some #NewPublicManagement foundation is basically the centralized holder of national law.

Suddenly some #Norwegian #grunder is standing at a #political #party victory ceremony doing the #romansalute - i.e the #nazi salute.

But it's okay, because a 100 years of #liberalization and #NewPublicManagement has lead to the defunding of #PublicEducation - making people politically and historically ignorant.

Some old codger says "I remember my great-great grandad was tortured and killed by the Nazis for owning a #jazz record", and a young guy says "stop being a #libtard, grandad."
