not seeing acpid in /etc/rc.d does that mean my system doesnt support it or it wasn't loaded somehow?

#netbsd10 #help #netbsd #laptop

So I have powerd running and I see lots of scripts in there but I'm not sure how to trigger them. My goal is jut to enable sleep state 3 when I close the lid to my laptop.

Beautiful!! Congrats! :D

Still a totally usable resolution. ;)

Yes! See if you can find i3-scrot somewhere. It's a little easier to use. Holler if you can't find it.

Put stuff in ~/.Xsession.
For wallpaper, you can use feh or nitrogen, or just something like Xbackground??? I'm not running X11 on here, so I'm having to go on memory.
Xrandr will write a file that you can source like a shell script, IIRC

man zzz or man apm. Search the web for 'suspend when closing lid "NetBSD"'

Gkrellm??

Try alt-drag or super/meta-drag inside a window to see if you can grab and move it past the screen edges. Otherwise consult the WM docs.

Where do I configure keeping the set wallpaper and screen resolution size?

Can't seem to figure out sleep. Closing the laptop lid does nothing.

A battery icon or some type of notifier would be nice.

Using Firefox Nightly and sometimes dialogue boxes extend passed the edges of the screen.

I want this on hardware with network support and modern sleep for laptops. I know "Of course it runs NetBSD", but.....does it work well enough on a laptop?

#netbsd10 #netbsd #laptop #runbsd #unix

It's that time of year to go through old HW and see what's still viable.

Threshold: It can boot #netbsd10

First up is a Unifi USG-3P, Cavium CN5020 board. Uniprocessor NetBSD10 (big-endian) runs well.

Also #openbsd 7.6 octeon image looks compelling as an extra switch for my home lab.

I'll make time to load NetBSD-current, and contribute how I can to multiprocessor.

Once again, the BSDs bring new life (and familiar quality) to otherwise unused HW.

Cheers to the BSDs!

#netbsd #bsd #unifi

My first choice is always a #bsd

Recently bought a refurbished Lenovo T490 off eBay. OpenBSD 7.6 on it good so far. Nice again to have a BSD laptop for home lab work.

This after unfortunate PinebookPro (good Aarch64 #NetBSD10 device, miss it) literally breaking in half! Back cover mounting screws wore, lid mounts had enough leverage to break remaining screws off. Smelled "magic smoke" so not sure what I can salvage :(

Back to BSD amd64 for now, and the Lenovo feels solid.
