@yura @AngelaScholder @dps910 @wboss some early #Netbooks like the #EeePC701 even had the infamous 137GB - Barrier in it's #BIOS, which I encountered trying out @OS1337 on it!

  • And yes that lockup happens on those.

Try setting it to USB-CDROM and using a stick with like a 4GB partition ?

@monkey well, I do have the same issue.

I'm working on @OS1337 for that reason.

Attached: 1 image Thanks to a donation by @lupo@tilde.zone, I've been able to test @OS1337 on a real #EeePC701-4G and so far this seems to have only some minor hiccups. - OFC I've first ran into the #137GB barrier with the #BIOS when booting my regular #Vendoy drive but then again at the time the #EeePC was released, 240GB SSDs were unobtanium and would've costed propably more than a dozen 701-4G's retail...

I genuinely liked and miss netbooks. They were perfect for small things, didn't use a lot of power, and if the battery puffed, you could easily remove it AND still use the device! I hate that they were beaten by tablets. Bring back netbooks.

@ActionRetro whilst #ArchLinux runs on a lot of things, #TinyCoreLinux and @OS1337 can go even lower...

  • The only reason why I've not even tried building something for crappy #ARM #Netbooks is because I've got none of them at hand to test against.

That being said if you have an #i486SX with 16MB RAM and 1440kB FDD I hope you can give #OS1337 a try...

Except #VIA failed to make their #Chips & #iGPU|s available en masse at a reasonable price point.

@cleantext I mean, lets be realistic: #Netbooks that struggled to run #WindowsXP ain't something people were crazed about (besides the excellent #EeePC which came with it's nicely customized #Xandros-based #Linux desktop that put the 7" 480x800px screen to good use!)…

  • OFC one would today rather pick a #Pi0 v1.3, #Pi0W or #Pi0W2 which are all faster, more power efficient and cheaper instead of hardware (soon) old enough to legally buy liquor in Germany.

Not to mention being able to basically run everything off 5V makes it trivial to "outsorce" the "power problem" to some cheap USB powerbank with multiple ports.

@cleantext Speaking of #Netbooks, I do have an #EeePC701-4G in my possession and I'm working on an #minimalist , #TUI / #CLI-only #Linux distro ( @OS1337 ) for it and other, #LowEnd / #LowSpec / #legacy / #vintage hardware like the original #RaspberryPi & #Pi0W...
@lymenzies TBH, I do want to target with @OS1337 the #Wyse3040 since they are dirt-cheap #ThinClient|s and since they use an #intel #Atom x5-#Z8350 SoC they merely sip power and can easily make #fanless #laptops (and Tablets, as they got used in many #Windows8 Tablets and #Netbooks)...
