Speaking of EABLs. They are in our neighborhood. But neither of our boxes has had much interest. They can’t seem to compete with the MANY house sparrows ‘round here. I’ve had to… um, “deal” with dozens of those jerks over the last few months. Doesn’t seem to make any discernible difference.

We just checked in on the bluebird boxes we installed out at a nonprofit partner’s property. The first round of babies has fledged. Ten healthy Eastern Bluebirds.

A little update on Momma Chickadee - she is still incubating her eggs, keeping them evenly warm and turning them every so often. This morning, she got spooked by a Robin that must have sat on the box, and now we know there are actually seven eggs! The male brings her snackies, so all is well. I have added her to the livestream on my YT channel today, if you want to check on her. #nestwatch

Madame Chickadee has built such a big cozy nest that it is hard to see what is going on in there, but this morning, she revealed at least three, maybe four eggs ☺️ She is not on maternity leave yet, laying an egg per day and covering them with fuzz when she leaves. Once her clutch is complete, she will start incubating, and then it will be more clear how many there are. #nestwatch

And with that, nesting season has officially begun here. It did two days ago, on the exact same date as the last time in '23, April 14. I am super duper happy that they chose this box and hope that everything goes well. This little lady has a lot of work ahead of her with that big box. Things have been a bit slow, I think because of the rain, but I put some dry moss out for her and hopefully the weather improves. We may see baby Chickadees again ❤️ #nestwatch

Today @Jillianmarisa and I made it back out to the park to check in on the boxes. 2/5 have eggs 🥰. The rest are occupied by (so far) not aggressive wasps.
