Finally finally this article was published! https://amodern.net/article/a-voice-of-their-own/

It only took ....too many years. I started working on this when I was still a PhD student. Yay academic publishing timelines...

That said, check it out. It's a deep dive into an episode of a campus #radio show at #UofAlberta in the #80s that was a flashpoint for #feminist outcry against #rapeculture and also like, talk about #neopronouns and #genderidentity and all that tasty crunchy stuffs.

Transgender and nonbinary youth whose pronouns are respected attempt suicide less: report

https://fed.brid.gy/r/https://www.advocate.com/exclusives/pronoun-respect-transgender-suicide-attempts

I don't think I have mentioned this, but my diagnosis and letter came with my correct #neopronouns throughout. Which is a thing I mentioned to the interviewer once, practically as an aside.

This is the level of "listening and taking the patient seriously" that I expect of a functioning medical system, especially the part that is supposed to deal with mental health. Because being an arrogant, ignorant arsehole gatekeeper at that point can be especially devastating.

Neopronoun Hivemind: the pronoun "hir", how would those of you who use/are familiar pronounce it?

My temptation is to pronounce it so it sounds like "here" (hɪə). Is that right?

Boosts appreciated pls 🙏

Ok but Funk dictio, how doth one use 'thon' elsewise??

They, them, their: They gave them their sleeve.
Vey, vem, ver: Vey gave vem ver sleeve.
Thon, ?, ?: Thon gave thon thon's sleeve, mayhaps?

En español, Spanish: aquí, allí, allá.
日本語に, Japanese: この [ko no]、その [so no]、あの [a no].
In l'anglaise, English: here, there, thon [that yonder].

"How may I address you?" Just a great phrase and intent all-around. Good clear communication and obvious demonstration of intent (unless espionage or subterfuge, but unlikely for most).

I was thinking about #neopronouns this morning. I've never seen one that really spoke to me, but I was considering what my criteria would be to choose one:

1) Pronunciation intuitive from spelling.

2) Not an existing English noun, or word in common use.

3) One syllable.

4) Not a gendered pronoun in another language.

Skimming some lists of neopronouns with these in mind, I feel like criterion 1 is the single hardest one to meet. (Also, wondering if any fail both 2 and 4 now.)
