I just totally justified for myself another reason why having two laptops can be really helpful: when I'm doing transcription, I can have my document up on one screen with dictation going (my process is to re-dictate about 75% of the recording because I do the notes in a particular style; then about 25% is typing out names and explanations that dictation cannot figure out), and I don't have to pop out of that screen to my browser in order to look up a definition or acronym (and there are a lot of acronyms that I am clueless about thrown around in the meetings that I transcribe).

I can just open up the other laptop and do a search, and it doesn't interrupt my document flow or stop dictation.

BUT, dictation on the Mac has a HUGE bug: for some reason, in Pages, every time I stop dictation to do some typing, when I try to start dictation again via the hot key I have set up, I have to minimize the document window and then reopen the document window in order for it to work again.

It's apparently not a known bug in Pages (though there are plenty of questions about it in the Apple forums with no answers), and there's no work around unless I don't stop dictating (which is impossible because a aforementioned acronyms, proper names, etc.).

Dictation also automatically turns itself off if I don't keep talking and I have to do the same thing.

Having to save the document, minimize the window, and then re-open the window is a big time-waster, adding probably 45 minutes to the entire process overall.

Anyway, besides the sheer enjoyment of having it (oooh, shiny, and fun to play chess on), I've just justified the purchase of the #MacBook #Neo once more! 😂
