Nehru visited Norway in 1957. He told the Norwegian press: I shall leave myself in your hands. Modi visited in 2026. A journalist asked one question. He walked away.

The distance between those two moments is the distance between two ideas of what India is.

Modi's India: Vishwaguru Abroad, Bulldozers Back Home

Modi sells Gandhi's legacy and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam at every international podium. At home BJP MPs call Gandhi's assassin a patriot and bulldozers demolish Muslim homes. The export version of India cannot survive a single unscripted question.

Nehru did not need to claim the title of Vishwaguru. The world came to India because India had something real to offer.
What replaced it was twelve years of staging arrival at a world stage India had already occupied.
The admirers, it turned out, had not been watching.

The Vishwaguru the World Never Knew — India's Diplomatic Illusion

India spent twelve years marketing itself as Vishwaguru — teacher of the world. Operation Sindoor revealed the gap. The Melody moment confirmed it. Retail investors bought the wrong Parle. At home, the performance played to a full house. Abroad, the admirers had not been watching.

Had a comment left on my site where I have some scans of photos taken by my grandad when he was stationed out in Singapore during and after World War II. I hadn't realised until the comment pointed it out that he was clearly there when Indian Nationalist leader Nehru came to visit and inspect the troops, making this 1946.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1961 war officially broke out between #India and #Portugal. For 451 years #Goa had been a Portuguese colony, so the day Indian soldiers advanced into it is remembered as an invasion, but in the #anticolonial thinking of #Nehru it began a liberation fight.
A fact-check of JP Nadda’s claim that Nehru opposed parts of Vande Mataram, with CWC 1937 records, Nehru’s letters, and documents shared by Jairam Ramesh. https://english.mathrubhumi.com/news/india/did-nehru-say-vande-mataram-had-too-many-difficult-words-fact-checking-naddas-claim-ydos2onn?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon #JPNadda #Nehru #LatestNews #India #CWC
In 1510 on #ThisDayInHistory, #Portugal conquered the #Goa region from the Sultanate of Bijapur. They held the territory for 451 years, losing it only in 1961 when #Nehru's #anticolonial forces seized it for #India. Goa, still culturally distinct, is now India's smallest state.
