James Pilkington, a #Puritan minister, reflects on Nehemiah’s rebuke of economic abuse. He names everyday injustices—rent-racking, fines on tenants, forced labor without pay—so common that cries fill the land, yet nothing changes. Still, he insists they must be named. Like daily chores, justice requires constant effort. How might you ease the burdens others carry for you?

The entire #bible book of #Nehemiah is compelling, inspiring & encouraging; Many life lessons to glean🤔

At a grim time when Jerusalem's walls lay in rubble from enemy attacks, Nehemiah embarked on a Huge building project to Rebuild his beloved city's walls. In 52 arduous days ~ the walls were laid brick by brick, Reestablishing Jerusalem as a stronghold!

With God's backing & your sincere effort: What would U like to accomplish for The Lord? Whatever it is, God'll remember U for your good work💖

#Nehemiah ben Hacaliah, as governor of Judah, oversaw more than just the repair of the walls.

Provision was made, and #Ezra and other men knowledgeable in the #Torah read the Torah before the people. They did not only read it; they also provided explanation of what needed explaining.

The people came to a better understanding of God's instruction. They then sought to observe His commandments more faithfully.

The #Jewish people committed to rebuilding the #walls of #Jerusalem. Yet they suffered dedicated opposition from the neighboring people who would lose advantage and standing if Jerusalem were to be restored.

#Nehemiah set forth all the various conspiracies of the enemies of the Jewish people, yet they were all for naught. The walls of Jerusalem were successfully rebuilt and repaired.

The Book of #Nehemiah represents the autobiographical testimony of Nehemiah ben Hacaliah, Jewish cupbearer of the Persian Emperor Artaxerxes around 450 BCE.

He was informed of the sad plight of #Jerusalem and its broken #walls. He bitterly lamented the situation, but was able to return to Jerusalem to do something about it.

What did #Nehemiah want God and us to know about him and his work?

What can we gain from Nehemiah's story and his example in his time?

Old Testament Reading: #Nehemiah 8:1-10

The #Law is read before the people.

In #Nehemiah 10:30 (=10:29 English), where MT reads ʾaddîrēyhem, LXX reads καὶ κατηράσαντο αὐτοὺς. Might this represent Hebrew ʾaddîrûhem, interpreted as an (Aramaic) Aphʿel of ndr? Apparently the verb ndr does not have a hiphʿil form in use in Biblical Hebrew.

#HebrewBible #TextualCriticism

#Nehemiah 6:16
Where MT reads wyrʾw (“and they saw”), OG, Pesh, and even Vulg read “and they feared” (#Hebrew wyyrʾw, +/- y).

KJV and NASB follow MT; NIV and NRSV follow the other versions.
