DAY 9 Neckarsteig. Neckargemünd > Heidelberg (Meininger Hostel), 16 km, +600m. I started off the day with a decent hike out of Neckargemünd but with a beautiful view on Dilsberg. I met up with a fellow hiker and together we quickly covered the 11 kms to Konigsstuhl, the high viewpoint over Heidelberg. After 1000s of stairs down we arrived at Heidelberg Castle, where I visited the Apothecary and the Giant Barrel. From there through the very busy and touristic centre of Heidelberg to the hostel. It's overwhelming to see so many people after 8 days of quietness in the woods 😅. Going to take my refuge in nature again tomorrow by doing another small hike around Heidelberg. August 2022.

DAY 8 Neckarsteig. Dilsberg > Neckargemünd, 9 km, +350m. An easy short day hike today, although the climb to Dilsberg Castle was still pretty steep 😅. Dilsberg Castle was very much worth the visit with it's romantic houses and cobblestone streets. I arrived early in Neckargemünd where I found a great 'Backerei' for lunch bretzels and kuchen and for breakfast tomorrow. Set up camp early to visit Neckargemünd and wait out a storm that is rolling in. August 2022.

DAY 7 Neckarsteig. Hirschhorn > Dilsberg. 21 km, +650m. It was quite a heavy hike today, especially because I lost the trail just out of Hirschhorn and had to do some off road 😅. Close to Neckarsteinach (from Goethe's view point) I followed the Philosophenweg which is really pretty. Despite already having quite some kms in my legs I couldn't pass by the 3 Castles of Neckarsteinach. Had a nice ice cream 🍨 as a reward before heading to the campsite, which it turned out was already closed, so now I'm illegally squatting here 😅🏕. August 2022.

DAY 6 Neckarsteig. Eberbach > Hirschhorn Obenwald Camping. 15 km, +450m. A rather easy hike today, mainly on forest roads and with a finish in the small city of Hirschhorn with it's beautiful Castle and cute woodwork houses. I arrived very early at the campsite, where unfortunately there is not a single flat area to pitch a tent, so I'll be sleeping with my feet up tonight 😅🏕.. August 2022.

DAY 4 Neckarsteig. Neckargerach > Zwingenberg Naturfreunde Haus, 16 km, +500m. A shorter hike today so I took it easy with many stops to enjoy the wonderful views. The view on the old meander that went dry 200.000 years ago from the Tillia tree at Neckarkatzenbach was quite spectacular. Now enjoying some bio sorbetto at the very relax and cozy Naturfreunde Haus 😊🍨. August 2022.

DAY 3 Neckarsteig. Neckarzimmern > Neckargerach #Odenwald River Camping. 20km, +700m. I started off this morning with a decent climb over a hill to reach the beautiful Mosbach Altstadt, followed by many kms through the Odenwald forrest. In the hamlet of Eisenberg I found a very welcome refreshment at a DIY drink stand, before going down the Margareta gorge. Now chilling at the wonderful Odenwald River Camping ⛺😎🥃🍿. August 2022.
