'Pretty in Pink' #FotoVorschlag

Resorting to a pink dogwood from yesterday's trip to the #NCArboretum

A stretch of trail has opened that we haven't seen since Sept 2024, and it is still heartbreaking. They have been removing downed and damaged trees everywhere for almost 18 months, so the change in canopy is going to be extreme.

After the hurricane they had estimated they lost 6,000 trees, but I would imagine they've raised that estimate.

This was very dense forest before the storm.

2/2 #NCArboretum

A small amble through the #NCArboretum today showed the gardens looking very much like a normal spring, but the trails (those that are open) still indicating the damage from Helen, 18 months ago.

Went and saw the open air exhibit called Trolls: a Field Study by danish sustainability artist Thomas Dambo at the NC Arboretum!

Such a cool and inspirational installation to experience while they visit.

Hello all. Had a great time at #winterlights, hosted by the #ncarboretum this week. Definitely recommend this.

The #trolls have come to the #NCArboretum! Here now until sometime in February.

Judging by the crowd today, they are going to be VERY popular! Technically, these are a dozen baby trolls.

From Wikipedia:

"Thomas Dambo is a Danish "recycle art activist" who is known for his installations of giant monumental wooden sculptures called trolls, made entirely out of recycled materials."

Good Friday morning to all, from the #Asheville area! A nice walk/hike at the #NCArboretum is now in the books, and coffee is being gratefully consumed.

It opens at 8 so not an early start, but about 32 to begin and 41 now, so good hiking temps.

I'm a slow-poke, but it's a nice big loop, basically on what look like fire roads, so less uneven terrain. Seeing some more areas of #Helene damage for the first time, but the Arboretum has done so much work and restoration.

Always a nice place to be outside! And for once not a single car was parked at the BRP interface with the MST.

Early Saturday stop at the #NCArboretum for the #bonsai before they pick them up for the winter. So gorgeous to see the tiny trees changing color like their big brethren.

#Trees

Another jolt of color from the #NCArboretum here in #Asheville today. They have many large (sometimes moveable) pots planted with trees and annuals scattered around, so the setting changes every time you visit.

I imagine these are petunias, and the orange with the green is one of my favorite combinations (just add purple.) Secondary colors for the win!

Went by the #NCArboretum today, and they had just updated their plant quilt. It was gorgeous on this overcast day, and there were remarkably few people there.

Now, if I could only convince them to have a coffee truck so I don't have to bring in our own...
