About 20 fence slats were thick enough to cut into two with the chainsaw. I treated myself to a new chain for the longitudinal cut and better cutting result. That means 20 more slats that are not so heavy to carry into the wood. Halved slats are not as stable as round one but last usually last longer because they dry better and the water can drain off better.

Further fields are nailed ready on the #fence. Old tree stumps (standing deadwood) are left standing and fenced off to protect them from being knocked over. Deadwood is a diverse habitat that should not be destroyed.

The #fence post continues toward the end of our private forest. On the left side of the trail, a rich mix of deciduous trees—birch, rowan, green alder, and hazelnut shrubs—adds depth and diversity to the landscape.

The fence post line continues deeper into the woods. On the left side of the trail stands a large aspen tree with a thick trunk, followed by towering marked spruce trees. The forest gradually transitions into a mixed deciduous area, with birch, rowan, green alder, and hazelnut shrubs adding to the diversity.

All 29 fence posts are now set. Each one has been deeply rammed and accurately positioned for lasting stability. The post topped with the iron ram was particularly challenging—it required an extra-long post and reinforcement with a wall of carefully wedged stones. That single spot took several hours, with many attempts and adjustments, to get just right. I’m very satisfied with both the result and the overall progress.

Together with my father, we’re preparing the fence slats. We cut and gathered them from various spruce thickets and peeled them afterwards. Out of the 150 slats needed (five slats per section), about 90 are ready—including the thicker ones that we cut in two.
