Die geologische Struktur dieser Formationen besteht vor allem aus lockeren Sandsteinen und Tonen, die sich seit dem Ende des Tertiärs ablagerten. Erosion durch Regen und Wind formt noch heute immer neue Flanken, Grate und kleine Gipfel.
