Greater Anglia will be #nationalised on 12 October 2025, the Department for #Transport has confirmed. The UK’s most punctual and award-winning train operator will transfer to public ownership with no changes to services, timetables, tickets, or staff roles. The operator has delivered industry-leading performance, 82 million journeys in 2024/25, and a £2bn investment since 2012, including a new train fleet. Environmental improvements and community engagement have also been prioritised. Managing Director Martin Beable praised the achievements over the past 13 years and confirmed the company’s ongoing focus on high service standards during the transition.

This fine is nowhere near enough. The water companies consider fines of £3 to £4m as a cost of doing business. At a minimum water companies should be banned from paying shareholder dividends whilst this sort of malpractice continues. My preference would be for all UK Water Companies to be #Nationalised
