Today in Labor History February 17, 1932: Florence Kelley (b.1859) died on this date. Kelley was a social and political reformer who worked against sweatshops and fought for the minimum wage, eight-hour workday and children’s rights. She coined the term “wage abolition.” She also helped create the NAACP. Kelley was a follower of Karl Marx and a personal friend of Friedrich Engels. As a youth, she belonged to the Intercollegiate Socialist Society and was an activist for women's suffrage and African-American civil rights.

NAACP urges judge to protect voter information seized by FBI in Georgia

The NAACP and allied groups are asking a judge to limit how the federal government uses voter data seized in an FBI raid near Atlanta. In a motion filed late Sunday, they asked the judge to bar any use beyond the stated criminal investigation. They also asked for a full inventory of what agents took during the Jan. 28 seizure at the Fulton County elections hub and who has accessed it. FBI agents arrived at the elections warehouse with a warrant seeking 2020 Fulton County election records. The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

February 12, 1909 - The NAACP was founded by sixty Americans, both black and white, in a call to safeguard civil, legal, economic, human, and political rights of black Americans.

The call was partly in reaction to a race riot in 1908 in Springfield, Illinois, home of Abraham Lincoln. The call was issued on the centennial of his birth, and principally written by Oswald Garrison Villard, president of the N.Y. Evening Post Company: "If Mr. Lincoln could revisit this country in the flesh, he would be disheartened and discouraged.”

Yes, I boosted an item about #Salesforce though I can't stand salespeople bugging me as such. What y'all might not know is that the national #NAACP utilizes Salesforce for activist and officer training. They also use Zoom, and Act Blue.
