@doragasu It is perfectly useable as a phone, no problems at all. I have a xperia 10 II that is currently in use by a daughter (with the webbrowser hidden) and she does fine. When I used it I did everything including banking without trouble.

It misses the killer feature of the #n900, which was seamless integration of all instant messaging. It supports jabber, but no other protocols out of the box. Granted, n900 existed in a time when facebook and google were xmpp.

It's pretty crazy, but you can successfully run Gemini CLI on Nokia #N900 running #postmarketos. Sure, you'd better run it on top of bash, otherwise Gemini is getting very confused with results, but it's working and it can actually do things!

Sicelo brought #phosh to the venerable #N900 using #wlroot's pixman renderer as backend. It's not snappy as the device is too underpowered for that but awesome that it works !

someone shared his #n900 with #postmarketos installed encourages me to buy that phone and do the same as he did. still, one problem i have before i buy is battery lifetime. is it worth it?

Its saturday and the nokia n900 I’ve charged and site idle to see how long the old battery will last has run out of juce.

I’ve charged it on thursday - last week!

That’s with stock maemo and battery that is probably 10 years old.

Picked up an old #Nokia #N900 for cheap, turned out to the micro USB port was broken.

So I had the opportunity to learn SMD soldering. Both harder and easier than expected, does require proper tools.

The plan was to install #PostmarketOS or #maemoleste and use it as a portable mini-computer.

Might still try but I kind of remembered why I don't play around with Linux on old hardware...

It takes too much time and I have too many other things I want to do, and in the end there is always compromises when working on old undocumented hardware.

But it's type II fun so I always come back to it after :-)

#openstreetmap started blocking the mapping app I am using on my Nokia #N900 :(

I realize there's maybe 5 of us so no one's going to notice the suck we suffer :P

I wrote a proxy to lie about user agent. Annoying.

But free, public, mutual #Web is dying. How are kids going to learn if they have to jump through advanced hoops to access anything? Where will the new generation come from?

Maybe we should create an overlay network for nerds only.
