We’re happy to see that Constantin, the parti-colored bat, is already on the road to recovery! Although he can already fly for 5–7 minutes, he still needs a few more days before he can be released back into the wild.
Go, Constantin! 🦇

This is something special: meet Constantin, the parti-coloured bat! (Vespertilio murinus)
This little fellow was found in the german city of Magdeburg and was exhausted to the limit. After a lot of care he's doing well again.
Have you ever seen a parti-coloured bat before?

At Redwood National and State Parks, last July, this bat was probably sick. It’s sad to see a disoriented bat out in the open daylight and not at its roost or hibernaculum. My telephoto lens let me get a good look without disturbing it. #Myotis #Bat #Skypuppy #NorCalCoast2025 #Fujifilm #SOoC
MYOTIS NIMBAENSIS (mausohr) found 4 years ago in the nimba mountains, threatened with extinction
acrylic painting 40x40cm 2022
info: The genus Myotis is a diverse group of vespertilionid bats found on nearly every continent. One clade in this group, the subgenus Chrysopteron, is characterized by reddish to yellowish fur and, in some cases, visually striking dichromatic wing pigmentation. Here, we describe a new dichromatic species of Myotis (Chrysopteron) from the Nimba Mountains in Guinea. The new species is superficially similar to Myotis welwitschii, but phylogenetic analyses based on cytochrome b data indicated that it is actually more closely related to M. tricolor. Discovery of this new taxon increases the number of Myotis species known from mainland Africa to 11 species, although patterns of molecular divergence suggest that cryptic species in the Chrysopteron clade remain to be described. This discovery also highlights the critical importance of the Nimba Mountains as a center of bat diversity and endemism in sub-Saharan Africa.

Painted Oyster Shells at the Seattle Art Museum – Kit Oz Books

Hey everyone, glad to see you all outside of Twitter! Allow me to (re) #introduce myself:

I'm a #PuertoRican #postdoc at UC Berkeley studying the #evolution of #longevity and associated traits in... pretty much every clade at this point 🤣

My big work has been assembling a collection of reference genomes, popgen data, and 200+ cell lines for 10 #Myotis #bats that span a nearly 5-fold difference in lifespan over 14M years of divergence.

If you want to know more, you know where to find me!
