How wild can I get with cels, can I shade the base, and dry brush some stuff? Two personal character sketches to really explore the medium.

Meet the OC: Deja Fu

…the police are the crime…

Dead drops and drunk tanks. A door left unlocked. A hole in the guard patrol schedule. An undersecured door, a familiar password, a moment of forgetfulness, or believable forgetfulness. In Praetoria, you could get a lot done by leaning on the way that everyone thought everyone else was corrupt.

Deja was one of them. The Secret police, that is. The term they use is ‘found family’ – when you dig out a collection of people who make the world make some sense. It wasn’t even her name, at first – it was her task force, for finding infiltrators. She was so good at it, they made her – well, Latrice Delain – commander.

Weird she never found herself.

The revolution is over, Praetoria is in ruins, but the work goes on. Like drifting spores, the corruption of the PPD hides in secret places, in filing cabinets and accountancy. That needs to be dealt with. And that needs a new name.

Have I asked you about transportation in your world? If not, please talk about that, I'm a big transportation nerd. But also, infrastructure broadly - plumbing? Electric? How widespread is power, and where does it come from? Residential heating systems? Listen-

hmm… the most interesting universe to talk about here is probably Eleventh Hour. in it, mana is roughly equivalent to crude oil; it's a natural resource extracted from the ground that needs to be processed into a usable form. the mana that comes out of the ground is white, but processing splits it into red, green, and blue (though you also usually get some impure shades from normal processing, big corps will process that again a couple times until they're left with mostly pure RGB). red mana = attack, blue mana = defense, green mana = healing, general utility, everything else really. you can also blend the colors again and make different shades, but it gets a bit weaker, and combining all three back into white makes magic cast from it weak enough to be useless.
i imagine that a lot of things are powered by mana, the vast majority of green mana is used in industry (so it's somewhat hard to get your hands on pure green mana, most mana processing corps will only sell pure green to other corps in bulk; it's just not profitable to sell it to individuals or even Knights. teal or cyan or other green/blue blends are pretty easy to get though). most electricity is generated using magic, it's more efficient than any mundane methods and doesn't pollute (of course, mana extraction itself is probably the largest source of pollution in the world). everyone's going to have electricity unless they're specifically trying to live off-grid, it's pretty impossible to live without a couple devices that track your every move. i think that the climate is pretty fucked, so there are fairly extreme seasons even if snow hardly ever reaches the ground. but i imagine that the average person isn't really wanting for basic shelter needs like heat/ac/plumbing. they might not have control over their heat and ac without paying up so it'll probably be just a little uncomfortable most of the time but you aren't going to freeze or die of heatstroke in your own apartment without extenuating circumstances. corporations generally want to keep people alive so they can sell them more shit.

AS FOR TRANSPORTATION: teleportation magic exists, but it gets incredibly expensive to teleport any reasonable distance. it's only practical in combat. it'd take gallons and gallons of mana just to teleport halfway across the city, and it increases exponentially. so teleportation is pretty much instantly out, it's just too expensive for anything other than quick dodges and *teleports behind you*.
the main transport that the average person uses is going to be trains. they'll commute by train, and if their job is on a large corporate campus, there'll probably be some light rail on-site. if they need to get somewhere without a train station that's also too far to walk, they'll probably ride in a self-driving taxi. cars aren't terribly common, the average person doesn't know how to drive nor do most people own cars. cities are fairly walkable but some roads are dedicated to cars. even if you are driving, you'll still have to walk some, you can't get most places by car alone.
in terms of long-distance transport, there's definitely a nice high-speed rail network going between major cities. air transport definitely exists, but it's less common than trains. also imagining just a regular plane in this world feels wrong so they're probably not regular planes lol. most air transport is probably cargo but there are consumer airlines.
