Found an update from the #MWRA on 8/22/25 "After the significant rainfall in May, summer 2025 has been relatively dry. The MWRA region is not experiencing drought conditions and MWRA’s reservoirs remain within Normal Operating Range. The dry summer reminds us that even with over 400 billion gallons stored in the Quabbin and Wachusett Reservoirs, water is precious. MWRA always encourages conservation and wise use of water."

It has been 17 days since the #MWRA last updated the #COVID #BioBot wastewater data on their website. They stopped doing it right when COVID was starting to surge. They usually update every few days. I am… concerned. #Boston #BostonMA

So far seems like this year is following the pattern of last year, but with a bit higher baseline rate of infection (perhaps due to all the precautions that were dropped last year and never reinstated). #COVID19 #wastewater #MWRA "north system" test results as of April 4.

A full week of wastewater data now shows a steep decline in covid numbers in the #Boston area.

One interesting thing is that the wave peaks *at* January 1st. I would have expected it to be after, due to transmission at New Years parties. This could imply that covid waves now are more influenced by population immunity and seasonal factors and less by human behaviors (like having parties)—though I imagine all of the above are factors.

(As ever, I'm not an expert.)

#MWRA #Biobot #COVID #wastewater data, now available through January 3, continuing to look alarming, though there's a downturn at the end so let's hope that keeps up!

Does anyone with Massachusetts connections know why the MWRA wastewater Covid numbers haven't been updated since Dec 21? (Today is Jan 3). Normally there's a lag of a few days, and yeah, holidays, but this seems like an unusual delay. #Boston #MWRA #Covid

It's both hilarious and concerning that whoever wrote this article—for an actual news outlet—does not understand that the #MWRA does not provide water for the entire state of #massachusetts.

Mass. to temporarily shut down system that adds fluoride to tap water

Massachusetts is temporarily shutting down the system that adds fluoride to tap water.During the shutdown, the state will be making repairs, which are expected to...

Here's your periodic reminder that the #COVID #wastewater numbers published for Eastern #Massachusetts by #Biobot based on #MWRA #DeerIsland samples are lowered by rain, because rainwater mixes in with the sewage and dilutes the samples.
If it rains through Friday then the numbers will be lowered at least through Sunday while they catch up processing the increased wastewater flow caused by the rain.
TLDR the surge is even worse than what you see on https://www.mwra.com/biobot/biobotdata.htm for the next week.

@thomzane

There already is a small spike in covid-19 now. So the next 7 fays will be critical in seeing if the spike stays at the current order of magnitude, or if there is a replication of last year's horrendous wave. This #wastewater testing from the #MWRA is an amazing tool. Glad to see it is also being done in many places across the nation.
