A very cool new study examined longitudinal trends of testosterone in tusks and found that mammoths exhibited episodes of heightened testosterone levels- similar to musth in elephants.
In #elephant s, musth is usually achieved under great body condition and is accompanied by marked behavioural changes like increased ranging and aggression to gain mating success.
